The first pride was a riot, more specifically a riot against police violence. Trans women like Miss Major and other people of colour paved the way for the celebration of pride today. You cannot celebrate your pride this month, or any month if you aren’t also supporting Black Lives Matter and the riots going on against police violence right now. Us white LGBTQ+ need to stand up for our black siblings and their rights, their struggles. We need to amplify their voices and show any support we can. (Edited to add links and make the image clearer)

I love that we’ve gone from this in April:

To this by September:

There are quite a few parallels between those scenes, actually.

  • One is in Charity’s kitchen/living room, the other is in Vanessa’s.
  • Both involve a meal.
  • Noah’s in both scenes, but with a markedly different attitude.
  • Charity and Vanessa part when Noah comes into the room in the first, and they move closer together when he comes in in the second.
  • Charity calls Vanessa ‘important’ and ‘different’ in the first and ‘special’ and ‘amazing’ in the second.
  • There’s hugging and kissing in both scenes, obv.
  • Charity flippantly asks Vanessa ‘Isn’t that why you love me, babe?’ in the April scene, and by September, she’s declaring her undying love.
